Continued from Day 153 Practicing God’s Presence.

In Post 153, I shared about how God’s presence what helped Moses liberate the Jews from 430 years of servitude in Egypt. Today I will further discuss how God’s presence continued to play a major in the life of Israel as a nation.

Right from the creation of the first family in the Garden of Eden, God desired to maintain unbroken relationship with man. After all, man was created in God’s class, with God’s own image and likeness (Genesis 1:26). The decision to create man was not done unilaterally, it was a joint decision of the Godhead which is made up of God The Father, God The Son, and God The Holy Spirit, represented in the statement “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness:Genesis‬ ‭1‬:‭3‬, ‭26‬ ‭KJV‬‬. God would then be in a position to consult with man in matters regarding earth governance just as He consulted the members of the Godhead in creating man.

Soon after creating man God started involving man in running earthly affairs but at direction of God. It’s recorded that “out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.”Genesis‬ ‭2‬:‭19‬ ‭KJV‬‬. In this model God brought the animals to man to “see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.” So man was to carry out duties on earth that had been delegated to him by God.

Sin spoiled God’s original plan for mankind to maintain unbroken fellowship with God. Sin did separate man from God and God had to evict man from the garden of fellowship. However, God never abandoned His plan to have fellowship with man. Federally, man became separated from God because of Adamic sin, but on an individual basis, there remained a door for man to connect with God through obedience. The first candidate to walk and fellowship with God in this manner was a man by the name of Abraham.

God called Abraham and Abraham obeyed God’s instructions to him to leave his people and country to a new location. This act of obedience put Abraham in zone of fellowship with God. This relationship grew to a mutual friendship. God depended on Abraham to advance heavenly agenda on earth while Abraham depended on God to exact dominion over a cursed earth. God’s presence would undo the consequences of Adamic curse. Abraham was not at liberty to do whatever he wanted to do on earth. He had to consult God’s will. On the other hand, God could not bypass Abraham to push His Heavenly agenda independent of Abraham. When God was contemplating judging Sodom and Gomorrah, it’s recorded that “And the Lord said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am doing,”Genesis‬ ‭18‬:‭17‬ ‭NKJV‬‬.

What did God’s presence accomplish for Abraham? It gave him a children when he was passed the age having children as recorded “Therefore from one man, and him as good as dead, were born as many as the stars of the sky in multitude—innumerable as the sand which is by the seashore.”‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭11‬:‭12‬ ‭NKJV‬‬. It gave him land as it is written “And the Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him: “Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are—northward, southward, eastward, and westward; for all the land which you see I give to you and your descendants forever.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭13‬:‭14‬-‭15‬ ‭NKJV‬‬.

God’s presence gave Abraham protection when King Abimelech wanted to take Sarah Abraham’s wife from him as its written “But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, “Indeed you are a dead man because of the woman whom you have taken, for she is a man’s wife.””
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭20‬:‭3‬ ‭NKJV‬‬. God’s presence gave Abraham wealth as it is written that “Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold.”‭‭Genesis‬ ‭13‬:‭2‬ ‭NKJV‬‬.

You may ask “what did God get out of this relationship “. God gained a legal foothold on earth through Abraham out of whose descendants came the Messiah “Abraham begot Isaac, Isaac begot Jacob, and Jacob begot Judah and his brothers.” Matthew‬ ‭1‬:‭2‬ ‭NKJV‬‬. Jesus descended from the tribe of Judah.
